What is Kickboxing?

Kickboxing is a sport which combines both martial arts and boxing, adding together kicking techniques from martial arts and punching from boxing.  It is relatively new compared to other forms of martial arts having only started in the 1970's.  The basic moves are kicking, punching, jumping and blocking.  Training involves improving fitness levels, sparring and work on grading (kata, techniques etc).  Competitive kickboxing can be semi, light or full contact and requires the following safety gear to be worn:

Kickboots, shin pads, mouth guard, groin guard, head guard, boxing gloves and chest guard (females).

Kickboxing is an excellent sport for improving your general fitness levels and has the added benefits of improving your self confidence and self defence skills.  It is also a great way to reduce your stress levels!
